How to Format a Hard Drive (HDD) / USB Flashdisk / Flash drive / SSD or Disk Using Diskpart (CMD) – In this tutorial I will discuss how to format or format data without third party applications (Third party).

Yes, we can delete/format data only by using the CMD (Command prompt) feature of Microsoft Windows, namely DISKPART.

Actually this diskpart has many functions, such as creating disk partitions, clearing disk cache, creating bootloaders for windows via diskpart.

But in this article I only made a tutorial on How to Format a Disk Using Diskpart, so for other tutorials I will make in the next article, let's go straight to the tutorial. please listen.


Tutorial How to Format a Disk Via Diskpart

1. Open RUN (you can press the WIN+R logo on the keyboard) type CMD then enter, type diskpart then enter.

2. Or you can press WIN + X Select Command Prompt (admin) Type Diskpart

After CMD Diskpart.exe appears Type List Disk then enter it will display a list of disks that are read on the pc/notebook along with a description of the disk and its size.

3. Please select the disk you want to format (Example: I choose disk 4) How: type Select Disk 4 on diskpart then enter Then a message will appear Disk 4 is now the selected disk (on disk ### you can see the order of disk 0, disk 1, disc 2 etc.)

4. After that, please do the format process on disk 4, type Clean then enter (to delete the partition) then you type Create Partition Primary (to create a new partition) type select partition 1 then enter type active then enter.

5. Now let's move on to the formatting part. You can format fat32 or ntfs (as needed)

  • Format FAT32 Type format fs=fat32 label=drive-name then enter
  • Format NTFS Type format fs=ntfs label=drive-name then enter
  • Please add fast behind fat32/ntfs if you want to format fast.


6. When finished, please type assign recent=K

Diskpart Explanation

Diskpart - is an application in CMD form which is available on windows and we can use it to perform some commands to our disk without the help of 3rd party applications.

List Disk - to see the number/list of disks that are read on our pc/notebook.

Select - to select disk, for example select disk 0, select disk 1 and so on.

Clean - to clean our disk including the disk partition to be deleted along with all its data. disk becomes empty.

Create Partition Primary - Create Primary Partition repartition disk.

Select partition - to select a partition on the disk. if the hard drive is not made more than 2 partitions please use the number 1.

Active - to show the partition we selected is active

FAT32 - standard format type that can only accept small files under 4GB in 1 file/transfer

NTFS - format type is capable of accepting large files > 4GB in 1 file/transfer.

Label=(name) - to create a name on our disk

Assign - buat urutan disk di pc/notebook Anda

Latter - the letter we use to manually mark the disk order
